Year One 2013-14

Dear Parents / Carers

For our Topic this half term we will be learning about fruits and vegetables. Children will be discussing healthy eating, doing observational drawings for their classroom display board, making fruit salad, tasting exotic fruits and finding out where they come from. We will also plant our own fruit and vegetables to grow.

For PSHE we will continue to follow the PATHS programme (Promoting Alternative Thinking Strategies) and discussing different emotions.

In ICT we will be using instructions to program a selection of electronic toys.

For Maths, your child will be using all the different vocabulary for multiplication, division, addition and subtraction and they will use this knowledge to solve problems. As well as this, we will also be learning about place value; this is where they will be learning the value of each digit in a 2 digit number.

For Literacy we will be learning more about stories, looking at different characters and settings. We will also be learning about patterned language in narrative and the layout used in simple reports and instructions.

In P.E. children will be learning about combining movements to make a sequence in gymnastics as well as Outdoor Adventurous Activities. They will also be competing in inter-school tournaments and multiskills.

Finally, in Religious Education, we will be asking the children for ideas of how we might mark the remembering of special events, e.g. calendars, birthday balloons, cards, parties, special meals, writing things in diaries, lists, etc.

Regards,

Year 1 Team
