Dear Parents,

English

We will be reading Little Red Riding Hood this half term and the children will be altering part of this story to write their own version. Talk to your child about a different character who could be in the story. Who might she meet in the woods? We will also be writing a recount of the trip to the multi-skills competition.

Maths

We will be looking at fractions which include finding halves and quarters of shapes as well as numbers. Counting in twos, fives and tens will be covered this half term so please continue to help your child to practise learning these at home.

Science

We will be continuing with seasonal changes and will be learning how to identify and name trees, plants, birds and mammals. Why not see what you can spot in your local park?

RE

We will be learning about remembering our roots. This will include the month of Ramadan as well as Eid ul Fitr. The other part of this subject will include being hopeful and visionary.

 Topic

This half term we will be learning about the UK and our weather. Please talk about different places and discuss the weather patterns.

Computing

The children will practise making sound effects linked to a story and will learn to produce talking books.

PE

Children will be continuing to experience a variety of multi-skills activities as well as learning early athletics skills. It is important that your child has their PE kit in school every day.

Thank you for your continuing support.

Regards.

RE

We will be learning about being fair and just and learning to be accountable for our actions.

This half term we will be learning about old and new toys. Please talk to your children about toys that you played with when you were little. On Monday 23rd January, we will be going on a trip to the Toy Museum in Cannock to learn more about this interesting topic.

Computing

The children will learn to program a toy to move around the classroom and will start thinking about simple algorithms (instructions) for their routes and then input these as stored programs for the robot.

PE

Children will be experiencing a variety of multi-skills activities as well as learning early athletics skills. It is important that your child has their PE kit in school every day.

Dear parents,

English

Please continue to support your child with their reading at home. Children need to have their reading diary signed when they have read with you at home so that they can get a reading sticker and work towards a prize. Please also use reading eggs to help your child with their phonics.

We will be visiting Aston Hall early this half term and learn about the story of Cinderella. We will also be reading stories written by Jill Murphy including Peace at Last. Children will continue to practise using their phonics to write sentences and practise their handwriting daily.

Maths

This half term we will be continuing to practise our addition and subtraction skills. Children are learning to be more independent in their use of number lines to help them with their calculations. You can help by asking children simple word problems and talking about how to calculate answers. For example, if I buy 7 red apples and 5 green apples, how many do I have altogether?

We will be looking at measures and learning to use a meter stick to measure length and beginning to use balance scales to compare weight. Why not try picking up objects around your home with your child and compare the weight? For example, is a favourite teddy heavier or lighter than a can of beans?

Science

Our topic this half term is materials and we will be investigating what objects are made from and the properties of different materials. Can you spot objects made from wood, plastic, metal or fabric in your home?

Topic

We are continuing to learn about our local environment and will be taking a walk around Moseley to look at the shops and the different houses. We will also be learning to weave and will be creating small pieces of art by weaving with wool and other materials.

RE

During these lessons we will be learning about the importance of listening to others. We will also be exploring what makes us happy. We will also be learning about the story of Christmas.
