Summer 1 2017
Dear Parents
During topic lessons this half term, we will be studying Explorers. The people we are studying are Christopher Columbus and Neil Armstrong.
In science, we will learn about seasonal changes. We will be visiting Dudley Zoo on 3rd May 2017 to learn about animals and habitats linked to seasonal changes.
We will continue to learn about e-safety and develop our ability to communicate clues, collaborate with others and understand programming.
For maths, we will focus on place value, addition & subtraction, measures, doubling and halving, multiplication and division. Children need to learn their 2, 3, 5 and 10 times tables.
Our English focus is on writing narratives and letters. The children will write about their own and others’ experiences, using past and present tenses correctly plus suffixes, contractions and the correct punctuation.
Our Festival of Culture will be celebrated on the 5th May.

Workshop in School about Mary Seacole on 26th January 2017

Spring 1 2017
Dear Year 2 Parents
During topic lessons this half term, we will be studying the lives of significant individuals in the past, who have contributed to national and international achievements. The people we are studying are Rosa Parks and Mary Seacole. On 26th January, we will be attending a workshop at school to learn more about Mary Seacole.
In science, we will learn about habitats and life cycles.
We will continue to learn about e-safety and develop our ability to use cameras and edit photographs.
For maths, we will focus on measures, money, multiplication, division and fractions. Children need to learn their 2, 3, 5 and 10 times tables.
Our English focus is on writing narratives, instructions and reports.
All classes will be visiting the Balsall Heath Library this half term.
Purple Attendance Day will be on Monday 16th January and National Number Day will be celebrated on 3rd February.

Autumn 2 2016
Dear Year 2 Parents
During our topic lessons this half term we will look at why we remember the
5th November and this will include a visit to Blakesley Hall to learn about Guy Fawkes. We will also find out about Joseph Chamberlain, who was a significant person in our locality.
In science, we will learn about the properties of materials. We will compare man-made and natural materials and also investigate which materials are magnetic and which are waterproof.
We will continue to learn about e-safety and develop our programming skills using iPads.
For maths, we will use all the different vocabulary for reasoning linked with multiplication and division and we will use this knowledge to solve problems. We will double and halve numbers and measure length, find different positions and directions as well as continue with our work on addition and subtraction.
Our English focus is on writing diaries linked to our topic work on Guy Fawkes and Joseph Chamberlain. We will also do some poetry and narratives linked to the Christmas story in RE.
Parents’ reading sessions with their child are held on Tuesday afternoons at 3.00pm. We hope to see you there!
