Year 2 Recommended Reading List
Parents often ask us for suggested books for their children to read so we have put together a list of books which are recommended for children in Year 2. It is by no means an exhaustive list but represents a cross section of books suitable for your child. Please do take your child to borrow books from their local library. (They can take TEN books out at a time for free!) Please also encourage your child to read as often as possible as it will impact hugely on their writing ability and general learning.

Autumn 2017
Dear Year 2 Parents
We hope you had a good summer break.
During our topic lessons this half term, we will be comparing The Isle of Coll and the island of Tobago. Children will be doing map work and comparing physical features, weather and lifestyles.
In science, we will be learning about Health and Growth. We will look at the different foods we eat to have a balanced diet and the importance of exercise as well as discussing the differences between adults’ and babies’ appearances and needs; we will also talk about what medicine is and how to take it safely.
We will be learning about e-safety and developing our keyboard skills in computing.
For maths, we will be using all the different vocabulary for addition and subtraction and we will use this knowledge to solve problems. We will also be learning about place value so that the pupils understand the value of each digit in a 2 digit number and where numbers fit on the number line.
Our English focus will be on narratives and using interesting vocabulary in our writing. We will be doing some role play as well as describing characters and settings. Furthermore, we will be learning to write diaries in the context of Bonfire night.
Please remember to send your child’s P.E Kit (white t-shirt, black leggings/jogging bottoms, black pumps and trainers). PE is on a Monday and Thursday.
Our parents’ reading session with children is on Tuesday afternoons at 3.00pm. We hope to see you there!
Regards.
